His Curta is also labeled with "CURTA" |
What do you mean, murff? Is Curta #923 also labeled "Curta"? |

... yes, 923 is labeled "CURTA"
Some more thinking...
Based on the Curt Herzstark biography the name of the first Curtas was "LILIPUT" - then a first series was produced and named "CONTINA" then the final name "CURTA" was used.
- The number of these first prototypes/series is not known.
- The exact time of production of these first prototypes/series is not known (the list "Baujahr mit laufender Nummer" is not 100% fitting the biography).
- It's possible that they re-assembled "CONTINA" labeled Curtas with the final name "CURTA" (this could be important for the first commercial distribution of the Curta).
So, both Curtas - the 921 and 923 - should be authentic! _________________ :: m u r f f

now it's finished - my oldest type I.
I took me a while to replace the broken rivet-fixed clearing lever with the correct screw-fixed new lever. And it is calculating like a 70's Curta - perfect.

Good for you - looks just about perfect now!
Always a dilemma about how to display them, though. I got a load of bell jars and now my collection is on a long shelf in my living room...well, not ALL of them but a representative octet. Next to a framed Curta poster! _________________ Cheers, Pete |
