Hi all,
My Zurich-type (see Murff's page) was, frankly, GREEN with all the accumulated filth from the last half-century, nothing like my Berne-type, which is still a perfect dark grey. The disparity bothered me; the two were of very different colours.
Well, let me tell you, those "Magic Erasers" work like a charm. My type 2s are now pretty much the same colour - the improvement is striking.
That said, I was very careful, and still ended up taking (I think) a little of the surface texture of the paint off. It's difficult to tell because this particular machine was well-used prior to my buying it and quite grimy overall, but if you'd rather have a clean Curta I can recommend those little cleaning pads - the brand I used was Mr Clean. Go slow, though - I don't think it'd take much effort to get down to the bare metal, which would affect resale value if you care about such things.
The next step is reengraving the lettering under the slides...that will have to wait until I have a bit more time on my hands though...any tips would be appreciated! _________________ Cheers, Pete |
