Unfortunately, the time and effort involved is high and it wouldn't be worth selling them -- I would have to charge enough that it would be more worth it to buy a real Curta.
On the other hand, it is good to see that the project is bringing more traffic here  |

I would still be interested! I have plenty enough 'original' Curtas, however the Type IIIDP is unique and very special. A niche market for sure, but like Adam Savage there are some of us nutty enough to really want one. How about a self-assembly kit, no strings attached if we screwed it up? |

Damn, very cool and amazing. Hmm, prices up maybe time to sell one of mine. Then tempt you with an offer of say $1500.
A kit would be interesting, with some tips / instructions.
So how did you get that finish, looks amazing in the video. |

The finish is part of where all the time goes. I sand the print, then apply Bondo putty spot filler, then sand, then a spray filler primer, then sand, then two coats of the base color (flat, not gloss), then wet sand, then more of the base color if necessary with more wet sanding -- repeated until it doesn't wear into the primer, then any lettering or numbering, then finally a clear coat. Matte for the upper part of the lower housing and the collar and gloss for the knurled sections and all of the carriage.
The lettering and numbering was done by cutting paint stencils out of vinyl with a cricut machine. I wrap the part with the stencil, paint a light coat of the base color to seal the stencils (in case there are sections that have gaps / air bubbles), then spray a couple of light coats of the lettering color then try really hard not to scratch anything until the clear coat is on and dry. |

It's an amazing job you did for sure. Despite all the effort involved, I still think it might still prove lucrative to build a limited series ... I'm not saying I would buy one, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could find, say, 10 people who may be prepared to pay for it so that you make a quite reasonable profit over the cost of printer time and finish and assembly time.
Anyhow - five thumbs up from me! |

Thanks for the compliments, and I'll definitely have to think on doing a limited run.
Btw, the Adam Savage deal was a trade -- Curta for a Curta. Here are some pics of the one he sent me. I'll be uploading an unboxing video soon.
