Hello all,
I recently bought a type 1 Curta without its canister (15639).
I own machines and I'm manufacturing a new canister, but I don't manage to find the typography of the word "CURTA" engraved on the cover of these early Curtas.
Has someone an idea?
Many thanks and very good day !!

The matching metal canister is labeled with "normal" CURTA lettering (without "OPEN" on the back):

And most probably you have a rare Small Font Curta Type 1 ... 15639
(in the range of 13750 - 15860 and 17050 - 17260)

see also here...

Hello murff, thanks a lot for your answer!
I didn't know that my new curta was a rare one ! (I also own a type 2 I restored last year, SN 500713).
The link you advise concerns the typography of the inscriptions on the machine herself, or on the early type 2 canisters... But early type 1 canisters have a quite different typography :

I have recommended the matching canister for 15639 (the fifth in the variant overview).
15639 does not belong to the category of the very early Curtas...

Curta Type 1 - 8 Variations of Curta Type 1 Canisters

The old font would have to be reconstructed...

Ok, so I misunderstood ! Regarding to the excellent Curta.li website, I thought that my 15639 had the fourth variant type of canister, with the old typography...
Thanks for the correction !

Here are two photos of my homemade canister, just after machining.

Have a very good day !

Thank you ! I now have to paint and engrave it, and put o-ring gasket and bottom cushion in place (I already have them).
And overall... completely dismantle the curta to provide it a serious revision !
